Youghal, Irish Heritage Port and historic seaside town, is located in East Cork on the edge of steep banks of Blackwater river at the start of Ireland Ancient East. Second oldest town in Ireland offers lots of sites to explore and discover, from characterful fishing harbour (used as a location for 1956 Houston’s Moby Dick), medieval College Gardens, Tynte Castle and famous Clock Gate Tower to lighthouse, Victorian Strand and five miles long beach, just to mention a few. Many famous characters have been associated with town, most known ones are Sir Walter Raleigh, once Mayor of Youghal, whose former residence, Myrtle Grove, still stands adjacent to ancient St. Mary’s Collegiate Church and medieval, best preserved in country, Town Walls, and Sir Richard Boyle 1st Earl of Cork, founder of Youghal’s Almshouses.
Abbey View Guesthouse is located just off Strand Street in Youghal town centre, within walking distance to harbour and bustling Main Street and all its shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants.
We offer accommodation in a spacious and unique house. Abbey View rich and distinctive history goes back three centuries. In early 18th century it was one of the almshouses, later it served as a school. Around 1830 an extension was added giving the building Georgian grandeur and splendour and it became a family home. Currently thoroughly renovated it is a guest house, which retains lots of notable features, painstakingly restored and preserved, giving it bespoke character. From original front door you walk the Victorian tiled floor, through 1910 stained glass door to Georgian grand staircase passing impressive wooden door frames and in rooms you find original fireplaces, magnificent window frames and covings.
Each guest room is unique and has its own character, furnished with luxurious bed, high quality bedding and carefully chosen original and modern furniture to compliment it. All bedrooms are non-smoking, have flat screen TV’s, Tea & Coffee facilities and are equipped with broadband wireless internet. Guest rooms are en-suite with marble tiled shower rooms (apart from one, which has private external shower room) and are located over ground, first and second floor. Number of them have partial views of sea and Blackwater river estuary.
In addition, in Abbey View Guesthouse guests have their own lounge, tastefully decorated with attention to detail, where they can relax by the fireplace, spend some time reading and unwinding or plan excursions, activities for the day ahead whether it be river cruises over the Blackwater river and sea or fishing or races at Greyhound stadium or pitch and putt and Golf Course or clay shooting or fun at Perk’s entertainment centre or just walk along the beach or Slob Bank.
